Emma Giventer-Braff
Soprano

About Emma

Emma is a Saarbrücken, Germany-based soprano, originally from New York City and Providence, RI. Emma is a recent graduate of Brown University, where she graduated with a bachelors degree in Music and East Asian Studies. During her time at Brown, Emma was the president of Brown Opera Productions for two years, sang freelance and in concerts across campus, was on the board of the Fermata Composers’ Collective, worked as a tour guide and a teaching assistant in the Music Department, and took classes in four languages. Emma is the winner of two prizes from Brown: The Hope Chatterton Prize for excellence in vocal performance, and the Margery MacColl Award for an exceptionally promising music concentrator.

Emma made her post-college operatic debut in July of 2023 as La Chouette, La Chauve-Souris, and La Bergère in Miami Music Festival’s production of L’Enfant et les Sortilèges in South Beach, Florida. Previous credits include Claire in Leonard Bernstein’s On the Town and the Governor/Vanderdendur in Bernstein’s Candide, both with Brown Opera Productions in Providence, Rhode Island. In addition, Emma has participated in numerous opera scenes programs, with Queens Summer Vocal Institute, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and Interlochen Arts Center.

Emma is a current fellowship recipient of the United States Department of State’s Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (Parlamentarisches Patenschafts-Programm), during which she is studying German language, Musikmanagement at Universität des Saarlandes, and working as a professional singer. To that end, Emma hopes to soak up all the German opera culture she can, to bring back to the United States and inform her artistry.

In her free time, Emma likes keeping up her language study through making friends from all over the world, as well as doing yoga, attempting to bake using German measurements, petting dogs, singing in her Vietnamese cover band with bandmate Ben Youngwood, and learning Procreate.
